Charlotte McMillan
Clarinet, Sax, Keys & Vocals
Charlotte has always loved music and started learning her very first instrument (descant recorder) with her mum at home. When she was 9, her Grandpa (a brilliant swing band wind player and pianist) gave her his clarinet, because he "didn't have enough teeth to play any more". At 15 her school music teacher took her mum and dad to a second hand music shop to help them choose a piano because she wouldn't leave the school ones alone. The rest is history. She played and sang in all the school groups and performed and toured for many years with the Leicestershire schools county orchestras and bands. After getting her A Level in music, Charlotte went to uni in St Andrews to study Chemistry and didn't play much then until a few years later when, a husband and two children later, she found herself back in Scotland. Here she started up a little song circle group for babies, toddlers and their carers which soon blossomed into a music school that now offers musicianship and instrumental lessons to anyone who wants to learn. She's picked up a bit of guitar along the way and very much enjoys a bit of a sing along at the local open mic session. She now also runs the local community choir. Thanks to her Grandpa, Charlotte is also the proud owner of a beautiful alto sax which she learned to play to join the fabulous 12 piece soul band, Soulacoaster. Soul, Jazz and Blues are new genres for Charlotte, having spent most of her life scrutinising dots and hashtags (!) as a classical player. She absolutely loves the opportunity John and Alan have given her to try something new and to get the clarinet dusted off once more.
